On 11th October International Day of the Girl Child will be celebrated, recognising the importance of girls’ rights and empowerment as well as the challenges girls face around the world. Established in 2012 as a global platform, advocating for girls’ rights.
Jessica Tandy a founding partner of Bizmod Consulting and trustee of the Bizmod Women’s Trust says, “We have always been committed to creating opportunities for South African girls who have a passion for information and communications technology (ICT).”
As part of this drive, Bizmod has developed Bizmod TalentKey whereby they are able to create a bridge between academic knowledge and working in the real world. “There is a real need in South Africa to uplift our youth, in particular our girl children. With this programme we can create opportunities for individuals who might otherwise not have had such a chance,” says Tandy.
Women are still significantly underrepresented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) positions in the workplace and at university. In addition, there is a scarcity of STEM skills in South Africa. Bizmod aims to identify, develop, and support top ICT talent and to grow these individuals in technical and behavioural soft skills. “Youth who have a hunger for tech and dedicated are identified and given a year internship to upskill themselves,” says Tandy.
She concludes, “Talentkey offers mentorship, collaboration and growth which creates synergy in our goal to serve our client’s business and ICT needs with high-quality resources and teams.”
