Tyla Seethal, the 21-year-old global pop star hailing from Johannesburg, was “knighted” by Janet Jackson at a live performance in Texas earlier this week, when Jackson mixed Tyla’s hit song, Water, into her legendary track, What Have You Done For Me Lately.
South African singer Tyla has taken globe by storm, finding her place in the Billboard 100’s top ten and landing a Grammy nomination.
Recently, the local-turned-global sensation has also appeared on several talk shows across the world, including The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Her hit, ‘Water‘ has gone viral, with over 200 million streams on Spotify alone. The earworm track has caught the attention of Naomi Campbell, Ciara, and most recently, the iconic Janet Jackson!
At a World AIDS Day event in Texas on Friday 1 December, Jackson showed South Africa some love by mixing Tyla’s hit track into her legendary bop, What Have You Done For Me Lately.
Videos of the moment shared to social media showed Janet strutting to the mash-up that she included in her set. The video is captioned:

From growing up in Joburg to making it to the international stage at just 21-years-old, Tyla was elated when her hit first made it to the Billboard 100 – and this was before it charted in the top 10!
She said: “SOUTH AFRICA TO THE WORLDDDDD”, adding: I’m a South African girl born and raised in Johannesburg This is crazy.”
Tyla exudes pride in her country as she continues to represent the nation internationally.
