Springbok couple Anlia and Eben Etzebeth are currently on week 36 of their pregnancy, and will be welcoming their first child together very soon! Ahead of the anticipated birth of their baby, we’re looking at how the couple first met, and how their charming love story unfolded.
Anlia and Eben first met through mutual friends in Cape Town’s Melkbosstrand in October 2021. Eben fell head over heels for Anlia, who had made her name in the South African entertainment industry for her leading role in the series Getroud Met Rugby as Sasha Richter, and for her music career as a singer/songwriter.
Less than a year after meeting, Eben knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Anlia.
In March 2022, the Springbok champion announced their engagement on social media, with a snap of Anlia’s sparkling diamond ring and the caption:
“Die begin van die res van ons lewe. Ek wou nog nooit so graag die ja woord gehoor het nie. Jyt my die gelukkigste mens op die planeet gemaak. (The beginning of the rest of our life. I’ve never wanted to hear the ‘yes’ word so badly. You’ve made me the happiest man on the planet).”

The couple married just under a year later, choosing the Western Cape’s scenic La Paris Estate in Franschhoek as their location to tie the knot, with close friends and loved ones in tow. Even South Africa’s reigning rugby captain Siya Kolisi and his wife Rachel attended the ceremony.

Eben and Anlia enjoyed a stunning honeymoon together in the island country of Maldives after exchanging their vows. Of course, the couple shared their magical experience on the islands with followers on social media:

Anlia has been consistently supportive of Etzebeth’s career in rugby, always in attendance at his matches. In fact, in 2022, Anlia took to the field to perform South Africa’s national anthem ahead of the third Test against Wales.

In 2023, the singer also released a song titled Saam Suid Afrika in support of her husband and the national team ahead of the Rugby World Cup (RWC).

After claiming victory at the RWC, the couple revealed that they were expecting their first child together. Since the big announcement, the couple have shared snaps throughout their pregnancy journey on social media.

At the time of writing, the Etzebeth’s are at their 36th week of pregnancy, with the little one due around late February.
