If streaming has taught us anything, consuming TV shows is best done in one sitting. Or almost one sitting depending on the number of seasons you’re about to embark on. No matter what you’re in the mood for, our list of favourite binge-worthy TV shows has got you covered for a good few binge sessions.

Netflix

Get ready to Netflix and chill with these award-winning shows.

1. Beef

An intriguing blend of drama and dark comedy, Beef follows the intense rivalry between two individuals after a road rage incident. Starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, this show features a fresh narrative and compelling character development.

Both actors won at the 2023 Emmy, winning the Lead Actress and Actor in A Limited Series or TV Movie, respectively. In short, you need to add it to your watch list this year.

2. The Crown

This critically acclaimed series offers a lavish and riveting portrayal of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The Crown is a fascinating dive into the world of British royalty, blending historical events with rich character studies.

Having won several awards throughout its six seasons, The Crown is a stellar watch that will keep you enthralled.

3. Dead to Me

If you didn’t already know, Showmax offers several incredible shows, and movies, including critically acclaimed shows that will keep you entertained. Even better, in February this year, Showmax is getting relaunched on NBCUniversal’s Peacock platform, and with it, will come several new shows.

This has been one of my favourite shows for some time, and it’s no surprise that it has bagged a few prizes so far this award season.

A ground-breaking series in the world of television drama, The Sopranos offers an intricate look at the life of mob boss Tony Soprano. This series blends brutal realism with psychological depth, exploring the complexities of Tony’s professional and personal life. Renowned for its rich storytelling and character development, The Sopranos is a landmark in TV history.

Get ready for seven seasons of brilliant TV that can also serve as great inspiration for the girlies wanting to try the mob wife aesthetic.

3. Domina

Set in ancient Rome, Domina follows the life and rise of Livia Drusilla. The show brilliantly portrays the power dynamics and political intrigue of the time, making it a gripping watch for history enthusiasts.

Disney+ has a lot on offer, but if I had to pick the top three binge-worthy TV shows that most people will enjoy, these are it:

1. The Walking Dead

This post-apocalyptic horror series has kept audiences on the edge of their seats for years. The Walking Dead excels in its character development and its unflinching portrayal of a world overrun by zombies. Adding to its great storytelling is its critical look at human nature philosophical theories and human behaviour.

2. The Bear

A unique culinary drama, The Bear revolves around a young chef navigating the chaotic world of a high-end kitchen. It’s a raw, intense, and sometimes humorous look at the pressure-cooker environment of professional cooking.

3. This is Us

An emotional rollercoaster, This is Us is a beautifully crafted story about the lives of the Pearson family. It’s known for its compelling narrative, deep character connections, and the way it handles complex themes with sensitivity.

Amazon Prime

From age-old favourite TV shows to incredible original series, Amazon has just as much on offer as Netflix.

1. Shameless

A gritty and often humorous portrayal of a dysfunctional family in Chicago, Shameless stands out for its unapologetic approach to sensitive topics. It’s a blend of dark comedy and drama that’s as endearing as it is provocative.

2. The Summer I Turned Pretty

A coming-of-age story that captures the essence of teenage life, love, and transformation. The Summer I Turned Pretty is a light-hearted yet poignant series that many will find relatable and nostalgic.

3. The Rings of Power

Set in the iconic world of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth, The Rings of Power takes viewers on an epic journey preceding the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. This show is a visual spectacle, rich in lore and grand storytelling.

Apple TV+

Apple TV+ isn’t only available on Apple products. You can download the app and subscribe to the service as you would with any of the platforms I’ve listed. And, you’d be surprised how much good TV is on offer.

1. See

A unique take on a post-apocalyptic world where the human race has lost the sense of sight, See is a gripping drama that challenges the imagination. Its blend of intense action and profound themes about survival and humanity make it a standout series.

2. Ted Lasso

A heart-warming and hilarious series, Ted Lasso follows an American football coach who is unexpectedly hired to manage a British soccer team. Deemed the most wholesome sitcom in my friend group, Ted Lasso will surely leave you feeling good and happy throughout its three seasons.

3. The Morning Show

An insightful look into the world of morning news broadcasting, The Morning Show tackles themes of power, gender dynamics, and the media landscape. With its star-studded cast and compelling storytelling, it’s a series that keeps viewers deeply engaged.
