During their set for Calabash Festival, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine charmed his Cape Town audience by addressing them in Afrikaans.
While on stage, Levine mentioned that he often compliments his wife, Behati Prinsloo in Afrkiaans. Behati happens to be fluent in Afrikaans, having once lived in Cape Town.
So, Levine knows a phrase or two in the ‘taal’, but admits that it’s a “very difficult language.” He then goes on to share the Afrikaans phrase he learned in Afrikaans from his wife, addressing the crowd:
“Jy lyk baie mooi [you look very beautiful] is what I say to her. She told me today [to say] ‘Julle lyk baie mooi’ [Everyone looks very beautiful].”
