President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed the date for general elections in 2024.
On Tuesday, Ramaphosa announced the set date for the general elections in 2024. Following consultations with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) and the nine Premiers, the elections are set to take place on May 29, 2024.
After registration for voting kicked off in November last year, a total of 27.4 million people registered to cast their vote at the ballot, as per reports by IOL.
This year’s elections will coincide with 30 years of democracy in South Africa, says Ramaphosa.
Historically, voting days are made public holidays in order to allow registered voters with ample time to cast their votes.
With 23, 000 stations across the country, Cyril encourages all South Africans to exercise their democratic right to vote on the 29th of May this year.
