The cold weather is here to stay, but we’re technically still in autumn. While we’re all getting ready to pull out our boots and thick socks, there’s one shoe that we can keep in our arsenal while the weather flip-flops between warm, chilly, and freezing: loafers.
Yes, loafers are still very much the “it” shoe and they’re perfect for autumn. They go with almost any outfit and are always super comfy. Here’s how you can style loafers this year and some of our favourite pairs.

Types of loafers
Like any shoe, there are several kinds of loafers to choose from that work with most outfits.
The neutral loafer
Neutral loafers in black, tan or brown go with everything. They’re a safe bet for work or weekend wear. You can pair them with jeans, slacks, or even skirts (more on that later).
Their simple style makes them far more versatile and subtle for those who want a comfy shoe that won’t necessarily make too much of a statement.

To me, chunky shoes are always the way to go, and this extends to these shoes. They add a modern twist to both casual and formal looks. Even better, the thick sole of chunky loafers makes them even more comfortable.

While I love and adore chunky loafers, there’s nothing as sophisticated as a mule loafer. They’re elegant, yet modern and make any outfit smart-casual in a flash.
How to style them
With jeans
Jeans and a t-shirt work well with sneakers, but when you put on a pair of loafers, that outfit instantly transforms into smart-casual. Pop on a blazer or coat and you can easily go on a date or pop into the office.

With trousers
Speaking of office wear, loafers are my go-to shoe. They’re as stylish and smart as a pair of heels but are infinitely more comfortable. They look great with any pair of long pants or even a jumpsuit outfit.
With shorts
Believe it or not, a neutral pair of mule loafers looks absolutely incredible with a pair of tailored or Bermuda shorts. This outfit is perfect for those slightly warmer days when all you need is a light jacket.
They also work with a pair of dark denim shorts and a simple t-shirt look just as put together. Although I would opt for a chunky shoe for an edgy vibe as shown below.

With dresses and skirts
Pairing these comfy shoes with a dress or a skirt may seem as odd as pairing them with a pair of shorts. But, these simple, elegant shoes add a touch of sophistication to an otherwise simple dress or skirt outfit.
