Lately, I’ve been struggling with my oral health. TMI – I know, but no matter what I do, I can never get my teeth clean enough. Of course, the idea of investing in an electric toothbrush crossed my mind, but the money never seemed worth it.
But I bit the bullet a week ago (thanks to some great sales) and have been using an electric toothbrush every single day. My life is forever changed. I will never go back to a manual toothbrush.
So, in short, yes – electric toothbrushes are worth it. But, if don’t take my word for it, read on.

What dentists say
Yes, it may seem like your dentist is trying to convince you to fork out extra money after your visits for an electric toothbrush. But they’re onto something.
Studies have shown that electric toothbrushes remove up to 20% more plaque than manual toothbrushes. And they reduce the chances of gingivitis by 11%. How? Well, the high frequency of these toothbrushes disrupts the plaque biofilm, where bacteria hide, translating to deeper cleans and less gum inflammation.
In turn, this also results in fewer cavities and saves your teeth in the long term, by reducing the chances of you needing expensive repair treatments later down the line.
My personal experience
As someone who has struggled with bad breath, yellow teeth (thanks to the copious amounts of coffee I drink), and sore gums for years, an electric toothbrush has changed my life.
I used to scrub my teeth until my gums bled to try and get the plaque off, and my tongue was never clean enough. Now, my teeth are spotless, my gums don’t bleed, and my tongue is super clean. All within two minutes, less effort, and NO hard scrubbing.
Whilst I’ll still need to go to my first dentist visit of the year, I’m sure my dentist will be ecstatic, and I won’t need an in-depth clean or any other procedures (I hope.)
Oh, and I’ve done the math. With the cost of toothbrushes these days, the price of replacement heads isn’t that expensive. It’s equivalent to buying a pack of four toothbrushes.
The benefit is that, depending on the brand you go for, different head types target different things. If you buy a bunch, you can tailor your daily brushes to your needs.
Is an electric toothbrush worth it?
Yes. Yes, it is.
An electric toothbrush may feel like a major financial plunge. But if you shop the sales, you can transform your oral health in less than a week – like I did. Your teeth (and your dentist) will thank you.
