Former Springbok rugby player Duane Vermeulen has been forced to temporarily close his family business, De SluisHuis Padstal, following a significant burglary that caused extensive damage to the padstal.
The 38-year-old World Cup winner, who retired at the end of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, runs the deli and restaurant in Deneysville, Free State, alongside his wife Ezel and other business partners, reports The South African.
“It is with great regret we have to share the sad news that De SluisHuis Padstal fell victim to a massive burglary incident that left our little gem with extensive damages,” Vermeulen announced in a statement on Instagram.

The Deneysville establishment, which opened late last year following Vermeulen’s retirement from international rugby, will undergo repairs before reopening.
“We apologize for any inconvenience and promise that we will work hard so all our loyal clients can pop in again soon to make memories,” he added.
While the Vermeulens reside in Cape Town, the business is managed with assistance from family members, reports state.
