A glammed up look or a full face beat doesn’t have quite the same effect without enhancing your lashes with a swab of mascara. If you suffer from teary, watering eyes like I do, skipping mascara seems like the safest option to avoid running makeup. But here are some tips from beauty experts that says we don’t have to ditch mascara altogether.
Here are some of our favourite tips to help you wear mascara without the raccoon scaries.
1. Eye drops
If your teary eyes result from dry or irritated eyes, eye drops will help ease the irritation even before applying anything to your eyes. Eye drops will also help to flush out any irritants.
Pro tip: Insert eye drops at least 30 minutes before applying makeup to give your eyes time to recover and prepare for the next steps.
2. Expiration date
Sometimes the solution to teary eyes and applying mascara simply lies in the fact that we have been using the same mascara for a little too long. Many of us (me included!) seem to think that makeup lasts a lifetime and that expiry dates for makeup are null and void. This is a myth and expiry dates exist for a reason. When we ignore them, it can often lead to irritation and sometimes even infection.
3. Primer
Remember to prime your eyes before applying eye makeup. Primer will minimize any damage done to your makeup as a result of watering eyes. Start with a hydrating eye cream that will keep the eyes hydrated will ensure that your makeup lasts longer, while primer will ensure that your makeup sets.
Pro-tip: if you don’t have primer, concealer is your next best bet.
4. Hypoallergenic mascara
Lastly, if your eyes are teary due to allergies, opt for hypoallergenic mascara. Try Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara or Hey Gorgeous Pure Wild Volumising Mascara.
