Former Miss South Africa and Miss Universe Margaret Gardiner has shared an emotional update amid the ongoing Los Angeles fires, which have claimed 25 lives and displaced thousands, at the time of writing this post. While her home narrowly escaped the flames, Margaret expressed gratitude for her safety and concern for those less fortunate.
This comes after a fellow South African celeb, former Egoli Actress Christel Smith, lost her home in during this natural disaster.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Margaret, who now resides in California, shared her relief that the immediate threat to her home appears to have subsided.
“The sky is blue. The air is clear. My suitcases remain packed, but I believe that we are safe,” she wrote. “The fire department did an amazing job preventing the fire from cresting the ridge.”
Despite her gratitude, Margaret acknowledged the widespread devastation. “I know that I am the lucky one. My prayers go out to those still reeling from the destruction. Thank you for your thoughts, wishes, and prayers. I am so thankful for your kindness.”
A disaster affecting many
Margaret is not alone in facing the threat of the fires, which have destroyed homes in areas like Eaton and the Pacific Palisades. Among those impacted is former Egoli actress Christel Smith, whose home was reduced to ashes. Other South African stars, including actor Greg Kriek and filmmaker Jann Turner, remain on high alert and prepared to evacuate.
Authorities brace for strong winds
As firefighters continue to battle the blazes, authorities have warned that strong Santa Ana winds could ignite new wildfires in upscale neighbourhoods like Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.
“The anticipated winds combined with low humidities and low fuel moistures will keep the fire threat in the LA region critical,” said LA County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone during a press briefing.
With thousands still displaced and the fires far from contained, residents remain vigilant as officials brace for what could be one of the most destructive wildfire seasons in history.
Margaret Gardiner’s story is a poignant reminder of both the resilience and vulnerability of those caught in the path of nature’s fury.
