Just Jinjer frontman Ard Matthews surprised his partner, actress and model Tanya van Graan, with a heartfelt proposal on stage at café Roux in Noordhoek over the weekend.

The intimate venue played host to a momentous occasion as Matthews invited van Graan up “for a quick story” before revealing he had spoken to her father—hinting at what was about to unfold. With a visibly nervous but determined energy, he dropped to one knee, drawing cheers from the crowd as he asked her to marry him.
Much to the relief and delight of everyone present, van Graan said ‘yes’.
A love story in the spotlight
Following the proposal, van Graan, 41, took to Instagram to share her joy, describing Matthews as “the kindest, most loving, passionate, funny, talented, enthusiastic human I have ever met.”

The couple, both well-known in the South African entertainment industry, have kept much of their relationship private, but this grand romantic gesture has given fans a rare glimpse into their love story.
Van Graan, known for her roles in Zulu and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder, has been a prominent figure in South African film and television for years. She was also named FHM’s Sexiest Woman in the World in 2007. Meanwhile, Matthews has been a defining voice in South African rock music with Just Jinjer, one of the country’s most successful bands.
