Loved ones and friends of former Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni recently pulled off surprise bash for the beauty queen, celebrating a decade since her crowning in the national beauty pageant.

Liesl, who grew up on Johannesburg’s Eldorado Park, scooped the crown for Miss South Africa in 2015, from Zipozakhe Zokufa.
Laurie then went on to represent her nation in China, at Miss World 2015 alongside 114 other contestants. There, the beauty queen earned her title as Continental Queen of Africa, and her spot in the top 10.
In 2021, Liesl married her sweetheart, physician and presenter Dr. Musa Mthombeni at Hello Timber wedding venue, outside of Pretoria East. The pair won the hearts of South Africans, becoming on of the nation’s most loved celebrity couples.
Now, the beauty queen celebrates the milestone of a decade since her crowning moment as Miss South Africa in 2015.
Laurie-Mthombeni’s loving husband and friends surprised her with a bash marking the 10-year celebration, after pulling off an elaborate ruse to keep the surprise a secret.

“I was very much on my way to my besties birthday party but it turns out all the special people in my life were in on surprising me with a party to celebrate 10 years since being crowned Miss SA,” wrote the beauty queen on Instagram.
“Thank you to my people for putting all of this together and of course a special shout out to my husband @drmusamthombeni – I appreciated you husband. Thank you,” she added.
In a separate post on Instagram, Dr. Mthombeni celebrated his wife’s milestone, sharing snaps from the day of her surprise party.
“The years have flown by but one thing that remains undeniable is Liesl’s beauty over the ages. A true generational Beauty and Queen. Watching you become has been one of my life’s true joys and like a bottle of fine wine, you’re only getting better and deliciously more complex with each day,” he wrote.

In a post shared to Instagram earlier this week, the beauty queen reflected on a decade since her crowning as Miss South Africa:
“On 29 March 2015, Liesl Laurie from Eldorado Park was crowned Miss South Africa. My life changed forever. All my ouma’s sacrifices paid off. All my mom’s prayers were answered. All my hard work finally paid off. God granted me the opportunity of a life time – without His grace I would not have made it to that stage. A blessing. An honour. A true Cinderella story…”
