In what has felt like a gloomy week across South Africa, the grandfather of a North-West University (NWU) student was out melting hearts.

Proudly wielding a bouquet of balloons and a Woolies shopper bag, an elderly gentleman was captured on video making his way to presumably meet his grandson or granddaughter graduating from the university. A special occasion that he would not miss for the world.
The sweet gesture, which has since melted hearts across the country, strikes a chord and speaks to the incredible lengths that grandparents often go through to make their loved ones happy.
“There’s nothing like seeing your biggest cheerleaders show up for you, especially when they’re your grandparents. Our hearts are melting.” writes NWU university on Facebook, sharing the video online.
The video, uploaded to social media by NWU on Monday, has amassed over 100, 000 views on social media platforms TikTok and Facebook collectively.
