It was a girl-power year, both locally and overseas, so we thought we’d round up a list of the top 10 women of 2016, who we think have done amazing things – and looked fabulous while doing them!
Terry Pheto
Our local rising star is definitely at the top of her game. She recently bagged an international award nomination at the British Independent Film Awards in London. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the new drama A United Kingdom where she acts alongside Rosamund Pike.

Renée Zellweger
We’ve loved her ever since she burst onto our screens in those iconic red pyjamas from the first Bridget Jones movie. We were so excited to see the latest instalment in Bridget’s life Bridget Jones’s BabyI, and we loved it! Renee also looked amazing at the film premiere in London.

Bonang Matheba
In 2016, she graced dozens of magazine covers in SA, and won awards like African Woman of the Year and Style Icon of the Year. Plus, she dazzled as host of the MAMAs – we’ll never forget that sexy black number!
Kate Middleton
How could this darling royal not make it onto our list? She’s the epitome of grace and style, and you’d never say she’d given birth to two royal children. She even manages to make showing a bit of leg look super classy, like she did for this year’s Recovery Street Film Festival.
Pearl Thusi
She made headlines across the country when she starred alongside Priyanka Chopra in the critically acclaimed TV series Quantico. We were all too proud! Plus, she’s an absolute stunner…
Helen Mirren
One of our all-time favourites, we can’t help crushing on this acting doyenne. Technically a dame, she’s as talented, charismatic and beautiful as ever. We loved her in Trumbo and Eye in the Sky.

Nigella Lawson
She was delightful in her Simply Nigella cooking show on BBC Lifestyle earlier this year, and we loved seeing her work with Gary, George, and Matt on 2016’s MasterChef Australia – her MasterClass pavlova looked scrumptious!
Scarlett Johansson
Sure we don’t need a reason to have a crush on this ultimate blonde bombshell, but here we go… She’s had a busy year, appearing in several films like Hail, Caesar! and The Jungle Boo , and she recently placed 3rd on Forbes’ list of Hollywood’s Best Actors for the Buck. All we can say is, we’d definitely hire her!

Amy Poehler
Our favourite funny girl has had quite a year – firstly, she graced our cover in January, killing it in the Sisters comedy with Tina Fey; she won the award for Outstanding Comedy Guest Actress at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards show; and shone in a stunning green number at this year’s Emmy’s. She’s a star we’ll always look out for!

Devi Sankaree Govender
We love this local media guru and journalist extraordinaire. Off screen, she’s down to earth and loves spending time with her family – plus, she has a great sense of humour to boot! This year, she unravelled the controversial state capture story, as well as covering the drought, and delving in to the art of motherhood.
