It was all about and subtle metallics and beautiful embellishments at this year’s Oscars. Here’s a list of the gowns we loved, and ones that didn’t quite make the cut.
What the winners wore
Viola Davis in Armani
Winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Fences, Viola was breathtaking in this draped cold-shoulder masterpiece. She definitely put the ‘red’ in red carpet.
Emma Stone in Givenchy Couture
Oozing old-Hollywood glamour, this Oscar winner looked immaculate in this gold Swarovski crystal embroidered and fringed gown. She took home the award for Best Actress for her role in La La Land, perfectly matching her metallic gold statue.
Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton
Nominated for her role in Manchester by the Sea, the actress certainly came dressed for the occasion in this plunging black and cream dress with a beautifully embellished skirt. The film bagged the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, so Michelle’s night wasn’t without a win.
Naomie Harris in Calvin Klein
Showing off her petite figure, Naomie was flawless in this knee-length white gown with sneaky cut-out and dramatic train. Her movie Moonlight stole the show, winning the Oscar for Best Picture.
Hits
Meryl Streep in Elie Saab
Acting doyenne and Oscars royalty, Meryl Streep shone in a beautiful off-the-shoulder royal blue gown with beaded accents. She can’t seem to put a foot wrong, always looking graceful and demure.
Charlize Theron in Dior
Our favourite acting export, Charlize stunned in this metallic dress with a sexy side slit. She’s every bit the Hollywood star in this flowing ensemble.
Taraji P Henson in Alberta Ferretti
This fierce actress was all about understated elegance at last night’s awards ceremony, looking regal in dark velvet and an impressive neckpiece. We also loved the Marilyn-inspired hair style.
Nicole Kidman in Armani Privé
This nude, embellished gown suited Nicole to a T, accentuating her milky skin-tone and slim figure. Her husband, Keith Urban, certainly looked pleased to have her on his arm.
Misses
Leslie Mann in Zac Posen
Lovely flowing locks, and we do adore Leslie’s quirky personality, but this is just too much mustard.
Teresa Palmer in Prada
She’s so slim and trim, but this Prada dress isn’t doing her any favours. The belt seems misplaced, and that bustier isn’t sitting perfectly. Sad.
Halle Berry in Versace
The dress is beautiful – we love the romantic fringe and bare shoulder – but the hair is a bit much. Wild and woolly isn’t really the Oscars style.
And biggest miss award goes to…
When Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly announcing La La Land instead of Moonlight for Best Picture.
