You’ve met “the one” and it’s time to get married, but now you have to figure out how to stay in touch with everyone in your life.
You have a husband and his whole family and friendship circle to deal with, and you’re worried your folks may feel out of the loop.
Luckily we’ve put together a few handy tips on how you can use technology to maintain all of your relationships, without dropping any balls, as part of our Fedhealth #FamilyTime series.
Online family savvy
Whether you are down the road from your parents or in different cities, social media is your friend. The next time you’re with your parents, take the time to set them up on various social media platforms.
Start a family WhatsApp group and make a daily effort to pop in on the group to say hello or send a quick photo of your day. This will allow your parents to feel part of your daily life.
If you are in a different city to your parents, make a point to have a 15 minute Skype call with your parents once a week.
Keep up on each other’s lives and keep your connection strong. When you are far away from each other, it becomes easier to lose touch, thus losing your connection.
Quality time
If you are lucky enough to be in the same city as your parents, a good way to balance your life and your relationship with them is to schedule weekly or monthly dinners with them.
A good way to stick to this is to either have a standing date every month that you know can’t be changed or make a new date for the next dinner each time you have your outings with them.
Treat the dates as sacred and do not double book yourself if you can help it.
