Scared to try out a bold red lip? Don’t be. According to make-up stylist Lesley Whitby, anyone can pull off a red lip – it’s all about finding the shade that suits your complexion best.
“Red lips are the easiest way to add colour and glam up your look without much effort,” says Lesley. “Remember to keep eyes and cheeks minimal so your lips are the focus.”
The “Chanel look” is always a winner – start by lining lips with a pencil to prevent bleeding, then apply using a lip brush for precise application. Take it to the next level with a deep wine stain like Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Effects Lipstick in Ruby Pearl, R140, or Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge in 131, R330.
Three polish perfectors
- Nothing ruins a perfect lip faster than flaky, chapped lips, so exfoliate once a week with a blend of olive oil and brown sugar.
- Apply gloss to the centre of your bottom lip – this will create the illusion of a fuller pout, and fuller lips equal a more youthful look!
- For a subtle red lip, brush colour onto your bottom lip, smoothing out towards the edges of your lips, then pinch your lips together to transfer colour to your top lip. This will soften the shade, creating a modern version of the classic red lip.
