Social media is abuzz with the news that a Downton Abbey movie is in the pipeline.
While the release date is still under wraps, a few other details have been confirmed. Here’s what we know so far…

Cast and crew
According to a press release from Focus Features, the production house that will be behind the movie, the original cast will appear in the movie.
Also returning from the series is its creator, Academy-Award winner Julian Fellowes, who wrote the film’s screenplay. He will produce alongside Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge.
Brian Percival (The Book Thief, About a Girl), who directed the series’ pilot, will direct the film. Nigel Marchant will also return to executive produce.
The plot
Focus Films chairman Peter Kujawski has hinted at the movie picking up where the series left off.
“Since the series ended, fans of Downton have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter,” he said in a press statement.
“We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of Downton to the big screen.”
The location
According to Deadline.com, “Highclere Castle will return as the family’s hub”.
