Boy Erased
In our most recent pick, James, the son of a baptist pastor deeply embedded in church life, is forced into conversion therapy after being outed as gay to his parents. This is a deeply moving, heart-wrenching tale beautifully written and filmed. It’s a reflection of the harsh reality gay people face, not just in the US but worldwide.
Silver Linings Playbook
Adapted from Matthew Quick’s novel, Silver Linings Playbook is a thought-provoking, highly enjoyable film that did the novel justice. The story follows a bipolar man recently released from a mental institution who meets a stranger and is persuaded to enter a dance competition with her. Centered on finding new connections who love you for you, this is an incredibly poignant story portrayed by Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert de Niro, Jacki Weaver and Chris Tucker.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Set on Guernsey Island during World War II, the story follows a young female writer who visits the island to write about a book club formed during the German occupation, who wins the trust and hearts of the island residents in the process. As sad as it is sweet and charming.
The Shining
Horror author Stephen King certainly needs no introduction, neither does the classic film’s director, Stanley Kubrick. Using King’s book as a vehicle, Kubrick breathed new life into the story through his immaculate creative direction, which lead to The Shining, unlike the book, becoming an international success. This is one of our favourite edge-of-your-seat cult films. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy…
Fight Club
In this adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s popular novel, the film follows the story of a depressed man who meets an intriguing stranger on a business trip. Together they form an underground club where men fight other men without any judgement, all in an attempt to liven up their otherwise boring lives. As you’d expect, chaos ensues. This well always be an evergreen hit!
