Ingredients
- 2 large onions, sliced
- a pinch of ground cloves
- ½tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 chopped red cabbage
- 3 sliced apples
- 200g brown sugar
- 150ml cider vinegar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Oil
Instructions
- Fry the onions gently with the ground spices in a little oil until soft.
- In a large casserole dish, layer the red cabbage with the apples, the onion and brown sugar. Pour the cider vinegar over the top, and add the cinnamon stick.
- Cover and cook on a low heat or in a low oven (160C, gas 2) for 1½ hours. You may need to add a little water to keep it moist.
