All we desire is a virtually undetectable, tone-evening foundation. The desire for full coverage, contours and loads of makeup is waning. In its place comes dewy skin, barely there and natural. The look is softer, fresher and geared at enhancing rather than masking our skin.
Light coverage
What you need to achieve this are the better bases. The ones that steer you away from full-on camouflage, in favour of an even veil of dewy skin and colour. Revlon Photoready Candid Foundation (R160, Superbalist) is the perfect example of a ‘skin-dation’. This is a foundation that allows skin to shine through with the right amount of coverage for a natural look. Think Meghan Markle wanting her freckles on show through her bridal makeup. Or Winnie Harlow embracing her vitiligo. And of course Alicia Keys who has openly discussed wearing less makeup.
Buildable coverage
If you want a foundation that does it all then Chanel Vitalumière Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Make-up (R945, Woolworths) is an investment worth making. It will provide buildable coverage, giving you the control. Plus it has just the right amount of luminosity and gives all-day hydration that the dewy skin look thrives on. The level of coverage you want can be tweaked with the right applicator. Applying with your fingers will be more sheer, but by using a foundation brush, you can build coverage effortlessly. Start at the centre of your face, working out. Press the brush on any areas that need further concealment.
Finish it off
The dewy skin trend may call for a little concealer too. Try Elizabeth Arden’s Stroke of Perfection Concealer (R300, Clicks). Finish with a mist of Catrice Prime and Fine Multitalent Fixing Spray (R114, superbalist.com). This both sets and refreshes the skin for a long-lasting dewy beat.
