Flagship UK newspaper, the Telegraph, has recently revealed the best cities on Earth. Not only does it give you some good tips on where to travel to next, but there’s a feature from South Africa right at the top! According to the Telegraph, local cultural hotpot and natural wonderland, Cape Town, is the third greatest city to visit. Check out some things to do in Cape Town and deals.
The ‘science’ of ranking the greatest cities
‘What is the greatest city on Earth?’ It’s never a straightforward answer, and it’s definitely started some debates before. But the Telegraph came up with a ‘science’ in finding the answer. Cities received a score based on a slew of factors. This included the number of five-star hotels, green spaces, museums and galleries and Unesco Heritage Sites and continued to things like air cleanliness and how much sunshine the cities see.

Diversity was also a factor and safety for members of the LGBTQ+ community was considered in the score. Bonus points were awarded too. Cities with a beach, canal system or river and a sophisticated metro earned more.
Cape Town’s score
The Telegraph said Cape Town’s ‘topography and geography alone make [it] stand out above the others’. With golden beaches that offer plenty of ocean exploring, mountains covered in unique flora and city that lies in between it all, it’s understandable that the local gem would shine.

But there was one thing that held us back, making Barcelona the greatest city followed closely by Sydney. ‘If it weren’t for the city’s poor safety record (Cape Town has the highest homicide rate on the list), it would have come in at number one overall,’ reports Elizabeth Sleith of Sunday Times.
