It’s not often that you find out your entire life is a lie. Alright, perhaps the story of Adele’s name mispronunciation isn’t that dramatic but it was something of a surprise to many Adele fans… or should I say “uh-dale”.
In case you missed it, Adele recently broke the news that most of the world had been pronouncing her name wrong this entire time.
During a Q&A session dubbed Happy Hour with Adele, a fan had said Adele’s name as “uh-dale” in asking the star a question related to songwriting.
It wasn’t the question that made Adele’s eyes light up as much as they do when she talks about her single I Drink Wine, but rather the lilt of her name.
The songstress gleamed with joy and shared that the fan had said her name perfectly; a slap in the face to most who have been calling her “uh-dell” for years.
According to the Evening Standard, the north-London accent dictates Adele’s name, given that she hails from Enfield and grew up in Tottenham.
Adele isn’t the only famous name many found themselves saying incorrectly. Lindsay Lohan (pronounced ‘Low-En’) Ariana Grande (pronounced ‘Grand-ee’) and Alicia Silverstone (pronounced ‘Ah-lee-see-ah’) are just a few others that revealed our pronunciations were askew.
