Say it with me ladies: Less is more! The season’s biggest beauty trend is going to involve simplifying your skincare routine. Why focus on a slew of different products, when you can achieve healthy skin with less?
This summer we are embodying a minimalistic approach to make-up and skincare. We’re ditching the extensive step beauty routines—who has time for that anyway? There are simpler ways to have your skin looking healthier with a flawless finish.
‘Skinimalism’ is a new term that you might have heard amongst beauty gurus, but if you don’t know what it is, you’ve come to the right place.
Skinimalism 101
As the name suggests, skinimalism is all about ‘skin’ and ‘minimalism’. The beauty trend is all about simplifying your skincare collection, and building a regimen that helps you achieve healthy, glowing skin with only the essentials.
We have officially reached the end of the perfectly caked-on make-up era. Skinimalism takes a ‘slow beauty’ approach to a sustainable routine. The movement is about embracing your bare beauty and letting your skin’s natural texture shine through. Make-up is kept to a minimal application as well; think of it as the ‘no make-up’ make-up look.
Dermatologists swear by a simpler, customised routine instead of layering an endless amount of cleansers, toners, serums and moisturisers that often take up a lot of time. Overloading the skin with an array of different products will cause sensitivity and strip your skin barrier.
Layering too many products on your skin will eventually clog your pores and will leave your skin looking and feeling irritated. This outcome takes a long time to resolve, and it often gets worse before getting better. For this reason, we’re leaving problematic skin in 2022.

Less is more
Skinimalism will save you time and money. The goal of it is to support healthy, balanced skin with an uncomplicated, targeted course of treatment consisting of usually three to five products.
Back to basics – How skinimalism works
1. Try Multitasking Products
Finding a multi-purpose product is the key to skinimalism. Essentially, this one product will tackle more than one skin concern. This will make your routine easier and quicker and saves you money.
2. Swap Your Foundation For A Tint
Instead of a heavy foundation, opt for a tinted moisturiser or tinted SPF. This swop will leave your skin with a lightweight finish while still protecting your skin and allowing your skin to breathe and absorb hydration from the products.
Your skin will be glowing and feeling fresh for the entire day.!
3. Exfoliate Weekly
Embracing your bare skin is easier when the texture of your skin is soft and smooth. The way to achieve this is through exfoliation. You will see improvements over time.
If you’re practicing the art of skinimalism, it doesn’t mean you can’t still have some fun with your make-up, there’s still room to play! The concept is all about showing your face some TLC and embracing your natural beauty, which can be enhanced by a pop of coloured eyeliner or a bold lip.
