Paco Rabanne, world-renowned fashion designer known for his avant-garde clothing designs and fragrance brand, passed away on Friday at 88.
Puig, the parent company of Rabanne’s brands shared the news of the celebrated designer’s passing to social media, paying tribute to Paco and his legacy within the fashion world:
“[Paco] marked generations with his radical vision of fashion and his legacy will live on.”
Jose Manuel Albesa, president at Puig based in Barcelona paid his respects to the late designer who had worked under Puig since the early 1960s.
“Paco Rabanne made transgression magnetic. Who else could induce fashionable Parisian women to clamour for dresses made of plastic and metal?”

A tweet penned by Mr. Giorgio Armani reads: “Fashion continues to lose radical creators, capable of inventing worlds and perspectives from scratch. Paco Rabanne was a true futurist, an experimentalist always projected towards the future, always looking to tomorrow. I recall the impact of the costumes he created for Jane Fonda in Barbarella had on me, as did his unmistakable talent in creating with unusual materials and shapes. It always sad when a visionary leaves us.”
Rabanne played a huge role in the development and progression of avant-garde fashion in the ’60s, known for merging materials that would commonly never meet – like fashion and metal. Rabanne’s artful and edgy yet stylistic approach led him to becoming one of the world’s most celebrated designers.
In 1968, Rabanne paired up with Puig and released their first fragrance, which then led to Paco Rabanne becoming a renowned fragrance line which to this day is still globally popular.

In an Instagram post from the Paco Rabanne brand, a heartfelt tribute was paid to the late founder:
“The House of Paco Rabanne wishes to honour our visionary designer and founder who passed away today at the age of 88. Among the most seminal fashion figures of the 20th century, his legacy will remain a constant source of inspiration.
We are grateful to Monsieur Rabanne for establishing our avant-garde heritage and defining a future of limitless possibilities.”
