As a lover of all things make-up and beauty, I love highlighter – it’s my favourite step when applying my face beat. I often say, if you cannot see my highlighter from space, I need to apply more. With so many highlighter options, I find myself asking, between a liquid and powder highlighter, which one do I prefer more?
Personally, my go-to choice is a liquid highlighter. I think the finish it provides is seamless, dewy, and gives a skin-like result but to make your choice you need to know the difference between the 2 and know what finish you want to achieve.
Know the difference
Liquid Highlighter
A highlighter in liquid form works to add a beautiful natural glow to your face. It can be blended into the skin and you can also mix it with your foundation or CC creams to create a dewy base.
Powder Highlighter
Powder highlighters are a bit more dramatic. It adds sparkle and shines when you brush the product over your cheekbone, brow bone, and cupid’s bow. This form of highlighter tends to add a shimmery finish to your make-up look as it has a higher concentration of sparkle that you can brush over your cheeks, brows, jaw and cupid’s bow to add that extra glow. Most powder highlighters are packaged in a pressed compact.
Even though a liquid highlighter is more subtle, I am in my natural, glowing, dewy, and healthy-looking skin era – where I don’t need to wear a lot of makeup. Wearing a light, liquid-textured product will still allow my skin to breathe a bit.
When applying my highlighter, I prefer using a beauty blender or my finger. If I am applying a powder highlighter, I would use a medium-sized, fluffy brush.
I am not married to only using a liquid product because there are times, especially nighttime events, when I want to add a bit more sparkle so I would use a light dusting of powder over the liquid product to emphasise that blinding highlighter effect.
In my opinion, a liquid highlighter is preferred but the choice is yours, depending which makeup era you’re in!
