Halloween is just around the corner. While painting a full face of horror-core makeup is quite the commitment, there are ways to play around with makeup in subtler ways to still achieve a gorgeous Halloween beat.
Here are 7 ideas to get you started on your Halloween look this year:
Colour me red
The colour red is synonymous with Halloween, so why not play around with it? Opt for a slightly drooped red on the lips, with blended red wings and a black liner under the eye, or you can opt for a bold red lip with a more solid red lining under the eyes, that swoops across the face.
Make Mia Wallace your mission
If that’s not your cup of tea, channel your inner Mia Wallace from Pulp Fiction with a dash of blood (liner or lipstick) under the nose.
Halloween horns and tails
Sticking to the simplicity of red without the drama of a full painted face, why not opt for little accents in red liner? These ‘devil horns and tails’ are relatively simple to draw around the eyes.
Clowning around
Halloween – the one time of the year for clowning around without being questioned. There’s a thin line between elegant clown makeup and looking like a McDonalds mascot, though. Instead of a full clown face, focus on one area – such as the lips and nose, or the eyes and cheeks.
Mime, but make it cute
Not down to be a clown? Making yourself into a mime is also an option – though this look only really works when you’ve got a full white face, accented with black on the eyes, cheeks and often lips. Swap out the black accents for another colour – like a shade of pink – to keep it playful.
Veruca Salt for the Wonka fans
Willy Wonka fans will instantly recognise this genius Veruca Salt makeup look. It’s playful and easy to pull off. A splash of purple eyeshadow on the nose blended into the outer corners is what makes this look pop. Create a foundation with contouring and highlights for an extra polished look. Don’t forget the blonde bob wig!
Meddling with Medusa
Don’t have a versatile makeup palette to work with, or not keen for dramatic makeup? Keep the beat simple, and focus on the hair. One easy, cost-effective Halloween makeup to try is Medusa. A packet of toy snakes and an updo later, and you’ll have a polished look! Alternatively, you can also weave toy snakes into a crown for a better grip on your head.
