From beauty basics to botox, we reveal celebrity anti ageing secrets, including the products they use and the fitness regimes they follow that keep them looking ageless.
Audrey Hepburn
Don’t neglect your hair when it comes to your anti-ageing routine as glossy locks can knock years off your look – just ask Audrey Hepburn, the epitome of timeless style.
It is a little-known fact that Hepburn was the inspiration behind Philip Kingsley’s Hair Elasticizer, with the wonder product being created specifically for the Hollywood actress.
Created more than 40 years ago, the product is still a cult beauty buy today, with its ability to transform ANY hair type.
Designed to be applied before shampoo and conditioner for best results apply to damp hair for a minimum of twenty minutes. The award-winning product is credited with giving users more manageable and healthier looking hair. No wonder she was a fan!
Robin Wright
In addition to being a huge fan of Zumba – a dance fitness programme, the 50-year-old House of Cards femme fatale is a fan of the Orlane skincare range.

Robin Wright’s makeup artist Tricia Sawyer told InStyle that she uses Orlane’s Anti-Aging Oxygenation System on the actress to get Wright’s luminous look.
Just before she applies makeup, Sawyer uses her fingers to gently press Orlane’s Absolute Skin Recovery Masque all over Wright’s face to help with absorption and to stimulate her skin.
But her ageless look is not all down to skincare products. She told The Telegraph she goes for “just the tiniest sprinkle of Botox twice a year,” something that most celebs do but don’t ever admit to.
“I think most women do 10 units, but that freezes the face and you can’t move it. This is just one unit, and it’s just sprinkled here and there to take the edge off.”
Gwyneth Paltrow
In addition to being a devotee of the Tracy Anderson Method in which she trains two hours per day every weekday, 44-year-old Gwyneth Paltrow is an advocate of organic beauty products and has even launched her own Goop range, which is 99 percent organic.

She told Vogue that her two go-to products are Vitamin E-packed face oil (“I love face oil, and I use a ton of it,” she says) and a replenishing night cream that she even uses in the day and is always in her makeup bag on long flights.
While the Goop range is not available in SA, there are several organic beauty ranges that are, like Dr Hauschka.
Oprah
The 63-year old TV host always looks radiant on screen. Her secret? According to her dermatologist Dr Harold Lancer, publisher of Younger: The Breakthrough Anti-Aging Method for Radiant Skin, it’s all about exfoliation, a high quality skin care regimen, sleep, sunscreen and eating whole unprocessed foods.
In an interview with AARP, Dr Lancer says too many women opt for the surgical route, before trying the basics. “Aging is multi-faceted and affected by diet, exercise, lifestyle, sleep and your psychological state,” he says.
According to the dermatologist, “the most important skin de-ager is consistent exfoliation – speeding cellular turnover so the skin begins to repair itself”.
Getting enough sleep is also paramount as it revitalises your skin, says Dr Lancer who advocates staying away from caffeine after 7pm and switching off all electronic devices an hour before bed to “help your body fall into the restorative REM cycle where the most serious repair work happens”.
Penelope Cruz
It’s an old favourite for many of us but if you haven’t yet discovered Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream, perhaps the news that 42-year-old Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz is a fan of the wonder cream will convince you. As well as a rehydrating moisturiser, try on lips, cheeks or cuticles to really moisturise.
Julianne Moore
One of the world’s most famous red heads, 56-year-old Julianne Moore unsurprisingly swears by sunscreen. She told Red Book “Sunscreen is my number-one thing. I’ve worn it every day since I was 23”.
Her skincare routine involves face oil followed by L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Day Lotion SPF 30. While the product is not available in South Africa, the equivalent is L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Advanced Restoring Day Cream.
Another anti-ageing secret of the star is to dab a touch of Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat under her eyes. Voted as a “beauty icon” in woman&home’s 2017 Best in Beauty Awards, this YSL product is hailed as a miracle worker for your eyes.
Her final weapon in her anti-ageing makeup routine is to apply a “pink-berry cream blush” on her cheeks that’s close to her natural skin colour.
Jennifer Aniston
Forty-eight-year-old Jennifer Aniston and her 52-year-old friend Courtney Cox are reportedly big fans of a new facial treatment that’s causing a stampede at salons worldwide.
The A-Lift Facial uses painfree ‘nano-currents’ which are delivered into the skin via probes and is said to stimulate blood circulation, reduce excess water and remove toxins, bad bacteria and cellular waste through lymphatic drainage.
So far, so A-List. But wait, the really exciting news is that this facial is available in South Africa, takes 30 minutes, and costs R750 per treatment. Visit thelaserbeautique.co.za and enquire about their Near Infrared Full Face Treatment.
Drew Barrymore
An interesting beauty trend was spotted at the recent Grammy awards with celebs using sheet masks ahead of their red-carpet appearance.
Sheet masks, hailed at “the lazy girl’s facial” are thin cotton sheets soaked in skincare product that claims to moisturise, brighten and even reduce the appearance of fine lines.
Forty-two-year-old Drew Barrymore is a convert, as you can see by this Instagram pic she posted of herself getting Grammy-ready.
Commenting on her Instagram account on beauty products she uses, Barrymore says: “There is no end to masks. Don’t mess with your face. I’ve not used fillers or tricks yet. So I turn to innovation in skin care and beauty. Let me turn you on to attainable solutions. Be your best YOU!”
Christy Turlington
Can you believe Christy Turlington is 48? If you are now lusting after her wrinkle-free skin, glowing complexion and luscious hair, we can reveal her readily available beauty secrets to you for the first time.
Christy is probably best known as the face and body of Calvin Klein, from 1987 to 2007, and she credits her fabulous physique to yoga, but her youthful look is down to Imdeem supplements, a brand Christy is now spokesperson for.
Imedeen supplements are individually designed for different ages and skincare needs, whether you are in your 30s and noticing the first signs of ageing, or in your 50s and looking to restore youthful beauty to your skin.
Expensive moisturisers and serums will only do so much, but a skincare supplement like Imedeen will repair and protect your skin from within, giving deep nourishment where it matters most.
Sarah Jessica Parker
While it might sound like a no-brainer to some, Sarah Jessica Parker puts her youthful guise down to slathering on the SPF.
Come rain or shine the SATC star ensures she’s wearing a high factor sun screen to avoid environmental damage. “I can’t live without it. It’s also essential to drink lots of water and moisturise regularly,” says the star.

Nicole Kidman
The best advice in the beauty book? Play to your advantages and for 49-year-old Nicole Kidman that means highlighting her gorgeous auburn locks. The Aussie actress says rinsing her famous tresses in cranberry juice really brings out her highlights and there’s nothing like a glossy style to anti-age your look.
Helen Mirren
Oscar-winning actress, Dame, wife – and she still looks fabulous in a bikini at 71! Her secret? An exercise plan designed by the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Seventy-one-year-old Helen follows a routine designed by a Doctor in the 1950s. It comprises 10 exercises for women including push-ups, sit-ups, running on the spot and arm circling to work all of the muscle groups.
Talking of the plan, Helen said: ‘Each day, you have to do the exercises within the 12 minutes and until you can, you can’t move up’.
Just 12 minutes a day? This is one celebrity exercise plan that could really work for us! You can try something similar in South Africa with British Military Fitness which offers classes in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
Pair that with plenty of sleep, and Dame Helen thinks you have the perfect recipe for looking great, no matter what age you are: “When I’m working hard, I don’t party. I just go to bed. If I’m on a film, I even try to catch some sleep in my trailer at lunchtime. I really try to sleep as much as possible…it’s very important.”
