Black liner never goes out of style, so stay on-trend this summer with a glamorous, sultry feline eye. Get the look in three easy steps.
It’s all about definition and, when done right, black liner and a little mascara can look striking – not overpowering – and is the perfect instant glamour update, taking your look from day to night in the sweep of a brush. It also adds fullness to the eye, giving you an elegant finish to any make-up look.
1. Create the shape – Start by dotting liner in-between the lashes; Max Factor Masterpiece Glide & Define eyeliner, R119,95, has a fine-tipped point that can get between the roots of each lash. You don’t want anything too stark on the lid, so use a brush to blend the liner as close to the lashes as possible, thickening the line towards the outer corner of the eye to create a soft almond shape.
2. Get flicking – Tip your head backwards and lift your brow – your eyelids will naturally stretch, making it easier to apply a straight line. For extra control, stretch your lid out from the corner. Next, with a fine-tipped, slanted brush dipped in liner, start a few lashes in from the outer corners and bring the line up and out towards the temple, following the natural curve, to about 1cm.
3. Finish the look – Keep things sharp by fixing any slip-ups with a cotton bud soaked in make-up remover. Avoid putting liquid liner on the lower lashes, as it can be too heavy – use a soft kohl instead. Finally, curl the lashes and sweep on a few layers of black mascara, with an extra coat at the outer corners to emphasise the feline flick. False lashes are a fab finishing touch and add more drama for evenings.
