We love Drew Barrymore’s take on beauty. The 42-year-old star has always looked gorgeous, however she is adamant about not using chemicals and procedures to keep her looks.

Every year, Drew embarks on what she calls a #beautyjunkieweek on her Instagram page, where she tries and recommends products for her followers.
She explains that she wants to find “at-home solutions” for herself and others.
“#beautyjunkieweek is over and all I can say is I am just a true blue beauty junkie myself. I haven’t been paid of influenced to suggest anything in these posts. These are just things I love or have discovered that I wanted to share,” Drew said in a post at the end of the last #beautyjunkieweek.
“I am convinced if we take good care of ourselves, we will feel better and less distracted by our own funny insecurities. I don’t have time to go to pamper myself, because i just don’t, so I am always thrilled to find at home solutions. And I don’t want to mess with my face, so I try to find myself ways and products to look my best naturally.
“I will continue to travel the world, find innovative labs, and educate myself about all the wonderful possibilities out there for us! I love being feminine. A woman. A mom. And always, a celebrator of all things.” [sic]
Here are some of the products that Drew suggested. Look out for the one she refers to as “a true beauty phenomenon” – it costs less than R80!
Anti-bacterial wipes
As Drew rightly points out, the germs on our cellphones are a prime cause of breakouts when pressed against our cheeks. She refers to a phone as “germ city”, and she’s not wrong. According to a Time magazine article, our phones are 10 times dirtier than our toilet seats… Frightening!
We suggest good old Dettol wipes to clean off your cellphone screen. Better safe than very sorry!
Nature’s remedy
Drew can’t get enough of extra-virgin olive oil. She posted a pic of the miracle worker with this rave review:
“Olive oil helps nails and cuticles, soothes dry skin, removes make up, acts as a moisturizer, helps scrapes and cuts, nourishes hair, lip scrub with sugar, can shave with it, and it’s delicious. So go for it! A true beauty phenomenon from nature.”
You can get a bottle of Costas Artisano Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Woolworths for R76,99.

For the brightest smile
Drew says that the Colgate Optic White Whitening Pen really works.
“I finally found something that helps me. I drink ice tea all day long. It’s my life. But, there is a reason the call it “tea stained” because it does. Then my teeth are super sensitive, so most brighteners and bleaches are out of the question!” Drew enthused in her post.
“Not to mention, who has time to go sit in chairs and have your teeth whitened? So I found this because my friend swore by it, and I’m telling you! I love it.”
While the pen is not yet available in SA, you can get a Colgate Optic White Kit from Dis-Chem for R109,99.
Masking the problem
Drew has always been a fan of masks, and her latest beauty crush is the Glam Glow SuperMud Clearing Mask.
She also gave a nod to our favourite export, Daily Show host Trevor Noah, saying, “I love doing a mask in bed watching the @thedailyshow it’s my happy place! Life is good in those moments!” [sic]
You can buy the Glam Glow SuperMud Treatment online for R613.
