Doctor, intuitive health coach and shaman – these are just a few words that describe Cape Town’s favourite doctor, Dr Leila Sadien.
With a degree in medicine from the University of Cape Town, Leila has made it her life’s mission to bring sanctity back into the art of medicine and healing by using a myriad of healing techniques which she picked up through her own health journey and studies. Her goal? To leave her clients feeling more in tune with themselves by accessing their inner power – and judging by her client list, it’s safe to say that she’s achieving all that and more. We caught up with her to learn more about her goals, what she does at Renascent Health and the incredible array of staff that works with her in her House of Wonders.
And what is an intuitive healer, you might ask? Well, according to Dr Sadien, being intuitive means that you are able to explore the world with more than your five senses. It’s no surprise then that an intuitive healer such as herself has had some challenges in her journey of becoming the healer she is today. Dr Leila notes that the hardest part about medical school was that she felt the information being shared was not in line with the kind of healing that she wanted to practise – especially since she was an empath. What was challenging for her was that she was taught to be as desensitized to the patient as possible, noting that “you don’t address them by their 1st name, you don’t sit on the bed, you don’t get too comfortable and it was very challenging to me to put that part of me away in order to be validated, respected and seen by the medical community.” However, she worked extremely hard, making it through her studies and eventually having a partnership where she worked with a very traditional GP that had resistance to her stocking minerals and vitamins on the shelf that wasn’t from a pharmaceutical company. Dr Leila was thus inspired to continue on her journey after seeing superiors, colleagues and peers not taking interest in changing the status quo and allowing a pioneer to bring anything new into the space. “Being a pioneer has been a major challenge in all of those ways, understanding that you are forging a new path and that teachers can only take you that far before you’re on your own and in that space it is very hard to prove yourself and what you discovered”, she says.
And naturally, all of those challenges just made her stronger and better at what she does as now, Dr Leila manages the magical Renascent Health where she, along with a powerhouse of healers give their clients a sanctuary to heal mental, physical and skincare concerns in a safe and nurturing environment. Her treatments are made up of homeopathic, aesthetic and shamanic medicine and offer treatments such as weight loss, hair renewal, energy healing, crystal healing, skincare, and IV drip therapy to name a few.
Patients come first
Upon your first consult with her, you are swept into a world of trust, healing and nurturing. Dr Leila and the team focus on the individual and the root cause of the issue instead of treating the symptom. When asked about why it was important to her that her patients are seen and treated in an holistic manner, Dr Leila notes that anything less would feel as if it were outside of her personal integrity. “It is very easy to treat patients with the traditional paradigm – making a diagnosis and then giving them a pharmaceutical medicine, sending them to a psychiatrist, etc”, she says while noting that the way it is set up is very easy but it does not fulfill her. Dr Leila is adamant to ensure that her patients not only heal the root issue, but that when they leave her practice, their well-being is enhanced and they feel happier about the world they live in, leaving them more empowered and feeling more intune with their bodies. “That enlivens me and it makes me get up in the morning”, she says, smiling.
When asked about the kinds of issues they have helped to cure at Renascent Health, Dr Leila notes that their idea of ‘curing’ a patient is very different to the traditional meaning – therefore, patients are not expected to just take a new medicine to make them feel better and mask the symptom. Naturally, they have a more holistic view and she notes that “the idea is that at some point the patient doesn’t need to rely on any medicine. The list of what we have cured is long, but the question really is just if that patient is ready to engage with what it takes to transform their life to cure a disease or not ”. And the kinds of things that they have cured? Diabetes, insulin resistance, hashimotis, lots of skin conditions like acne, rosacea, depression and anxiety to name a few.
Treatments on offer
While their healthcare treatments such as the incredible and effective Wonder Weight Programme are firm favourites with her patients, the aesthetic treatments on offer attract a big crowd. Her own favourite is the popular Vampire Facial since it uses the body’s own serum for healing and regeneration. Dr Leila also favours methotherapy since they inject a specific, individualised cocktail of nutrients into the patient’s skin depending on what they need. Many of the treatments at Renascent Health are cutting edge but more popular treatments are of course her botox and fillers. What we’ve personally come to love and appreciate about her treatments are that she and the team are always on the lookout for exciting product offerings such as the TimeWaver which uses the principles of quantum physics to assess and help treat the energetic balance of the organs in the body.
Through our conversation with her, it should come as no surprise that her services yearned for by many and when asked about the future of Renascent Health, Dr Leila notes that they’re on a mission to include more clientele by including a male practise, giving males a space of their own to heal.
