Keeping up with trendy hair styles can be tricky as we age. We need to keep in mind that our hair texture, thickness, colour and quality changes as we age. Does this mean we need to chop off our locks and don the short-roller-set hair with purple rinse? Of course not!
Work with your hair changes and keep in mind what styles suit you. It’s also important to know that our face changes as gravity takes over, so we might need to re-look at our face shape when considering a new anti ageing hairstyle.
We asked Shelene Shaer, owner of Tanaz Hair, Body and Nails to let us in on what the trendy hair styles are, and how we can wear them.

Pixie Crop
This style is ideal for ladies with fine, short hair. It’s a great look if you want to experiment with colour and is super-easy to wear. Regna King, 41, pulls off this look beautifully with a slightly longer crop, but Shear warns not to go too long as it will pull your hair down at the roots.
Embrace The Grey
Tired of hiding your greys? Forget about it! Grey hair is a huge trend with young and old alike. Shaer recommends not doing a flat, grey coverage – but to rather streak your grey, giving you more dimension. We love how, 70-year-old Diane Keaton, does it.

Lighten Up
No matter what colour you make your hair, try stay away from dark and very flat colours. They tend to age you more than you think. Shaer recommends putting a few lighter strands throughout your hair to give it some depth and vibrancy. It also makes hiding grey a lot easier. Take a page out of 47-year-old Jennifer Aniston’s book.
Love Your Length
Don’t cut your hair short when you turn 50 because it’s been said older ladies can’t pull off long hair anymore. Look at 65-year-old Jane Seymour, with her beautiful flowing locks. The key here is to keep your hair in good condition with regular trims and treatments.
Fancy A Fringe
Fringes and side partings are very flattering anti ageing hairstyles. “They distract from lines and help soften your face – they are very forgiving,” says Shaer. We love how Sandra Bullock, 52, wears hers.
