Celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke shares his top tricks for slimming haircuts for rounder faces.
These haircuts will suit every face shape
Suck in your cheekbones
Add a sweeping or peek-a-boo fringe to a longer style to frame your face and give width to the temples. This will enhance your cheekbones
for a “thinner look”.
Stretch yourself slim
Longer-length styles are great at making your face look narrower, or choose shorter styles that have height to help elongate your features.
Feeling an all rounder?
If you have a round or square face shape, opt for a pixie crop or longer style – jaw-length cuts will make your face look wider.
Play tricks with shape
Like wearing a dress cut on the bias, choose a slimming asymmetric shape. Think Cameron Diaz.
Go light on colour
Like dressing in floaty layers, opt for threads of colour – rather than dark, heavy blocks – so it looks like light is playing through your hair. Ask for tone-on-tone colour or tonal layers of balayage (where highlights are applied freehand) woven through.

Avoid “helmet hair”
Focus on condition and shine, and lay off the hairspray. Hair with movement looks more natural; if you have lots of body in your hair, you need it to be flirty and fluid.
Style updos for the shapely:
1. A high ponytail pulls the jawline up, so don’t be afraid! It creates the perfect heart-shape face; narrowing the chin, widening the forehead and opening eyes.
2. A classic chignon will accentuate your eyes, drawing attention away from any problem areas.
3. A half-up/half-down look works well with curls.
