While we all want our make-up to make us look better, we often make mistakes that make us look older.

Here our beauty editor shares which make-up blunders may be short-changing us in terms of age, and how we can fix them:
-
Lipstick too dark
Deep shades of lipstick make lips look thinner. Rather opt for natural colours and light pinks to draw less attention to the mouth area.
-
Too much blusher
Applying blush on the apple will often create a bulging cheek. Sweep the blusher from the apple up to the top of the ear in a ‘tick’. It lifts the face and is far more flattering.

-
Dark eye-shadow
Blacks and greys can make your eyes look smaller. Natural colours and earthy browns open up and compliment the eye without being too harsh.
-
Too much powder
Too much powder on the skin can make it look dry and ‘cakey’. Only powder areas of the face you really need it, or suffer with excess shine.
-
Black liner
Black liner has a harsh effect. Brown kohls and pencils are a lot creamier, and can be blended out for a softer finish.
-
Wrong foundation colour
Foundation is key for creating a flawless look. The wrong colour can leaving you looking washed out and grey. Always test a colour by blending it on your chest. If you can’t see it, it’s the right shade.
