South Africans are not happy after the Miss Universe 2023 pageant announced its hosts for the year. When the Queen B, Bonang Matheba, made it into the top pick of hosts, the entire country was rallying behind her – after all, she’s no stranger to hosting big award shows.

Anne Jakkaphong, new owner of the Miss Universe pageant, recently put up a poll on socials to ask the public who they’d like to see host this year’s pageant.

Bonang Matheba, Jeannie Mai- Jenkins, Zuri Hall and Ashley Graham were all top contenders. Then, South African Twitter made it very clear who was their top contender on a poll hosted by Binge on Pop

The pageant announced its hosts on socials this week with Olivia Culpo and Jeannie Mai Jenkins as the main stage hosts. While Catriona Gray and Zuri Hall take us on a journey backstage to see all the behind-the-scenes action.

Since ownership of the pageant has fallen into her hands, Anne Jakkaphong has made a few notable changes to Miss Universe, like replacing Steve Harvey after 5 years. Jakkaphong wanted the show to be hosted by a woman this year, but received backlash after posting the list of chosen hosts to her socials a couple of days ago.

SA wants to know, why not Bonang?

The 71st Miss Universe pageant will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, on 14 January 2023.
