Tik Tok’s slugging trend has been making the rounds for a while now, and with good reason. The simple hack to locking in moisture and benefits of your skincare products by using an outer sealant layer of a petroleum-based product, like Vaseline, has proven to work for the face. Now, slugging has transferred into nail care, and it is boasting remarkable results.

It’s a simple, two-step routine
Slugging is not some intense routine you need to set aside heaps of time for, especially when it comes to nails. All you need is a good cuticle oil and some Vaseline or Eucerin’s Aquaphor Balm.
Set aside a few minutes before bed or 10 minutes from your day to slug your nails. Some prefer doing it before bed, so your nails can lock in the moisture for 7+ hours while you sleep. If you’re like me though, too precious about your cream bedding to climb into it with fully slugged fingertips, then a 10-minute session will do.
Step 1: Cover your nails in a generous amount of cuticle oil (recommendations to follow), making sure that you’ve massaged it into your nails and cuticles, for it to properly absorb.
Step 2: Grab your Vaseline or Aquaphor Balm from Eucerin, and apply a generously thick layer over the oil, onto the nails and cuticles. This petroleum-based product creates an ‘outer skin’ which locks in any moisture and product that you have applied.
Once you’ve got your sealant spread on properly, wait for 10 minutes, or go to sleep for the night. In the morning, or once your ten minutes are up, rub the excess product into your hands, and voila! You’re done. If you’ve got rugged cuticles and splits, keep this routine up for 1-2 weeks and you’ll see a major difference in your cuticles and the strength of your nails.
