It’s not just clothing that everyone raves about at fashion shows – there are also beauty trends to look out for, that include the nail colour trends and looks to try.
Our beauty editor, Martinique Stevens, has found a few nail trends she just can’t get enough of, straight off global runways.
Not only are they fun and pretty, but they’re also easy to replicate.
Here are Martinique’s tips for getting these looks.

Trend: Colourful cuticles/‘The Reverse French’
As seen at Moschino and Tom Ford, this is one nail art trend that I seriously adore.
Nails accented with colourful cuticles are the perfect way to add some flair to an otherwise minimalistic outfit.
Try this trend at home by choosing two nail colours in the same colour family, with one being a brighter, more pigmented variation of the other.
Start by laying down the more muted nail polish first, and then shape a half moon at the base (cuticle) of nail to create contrast. Finish off by applying your favourite long-wear top coat. Done!
Trend: Ultra feminine
Lavender made a reappearance this year as the ‘it’ colour in fashion and beauty, and even snuck its way into top food recipes, and fragrances too.
Switch things up and start wearing muted amethyst hues on your finger nails; make a statement by picking lavenders, tainted with stone-grey undertones, like this Mavala Mini Nail Polish, R87 for 5ml, in the shade Ginza.
If you’re not a fan of purple, try one of the latest taupe-shaded lacquers that have lavender undertones, like Morgan Taylor Nail Lacquer in the shade Caviar on Ice, R150 for 15ml (pictured above).
Trend: Liquor inspired hues
Think of classic alcoholic beverages, like that vintage merlot you’ve been saving for a special occasion.
Think wine-hued nails ranging from deep red tones at the Oscar de la Renta and Temperley London shows; burgundy at Peter Pilotto, to a deep chocolate-red at designer Edeline Lee.
Try this boozy colour trend with a shade from Essie’s latest winter collection, in the shade Bordeaux, R139,95 for 15ml (pictured above).

Trend: Metallic update/Holographic
Holographic hued nails are in, and not in your standard gold silver and bronze. Jazz your nails up in prismatic peacock shades of blue and green, as seen at Naeem Khan Fall ’18.
If you prefer to go with a more classic colour, champagne-gold is a must-try of the season. Get it with this Revlon Nail Enamel in Gilded Goddess, R125 for 15ml.
