I’ve kept my ‘ins and outs’ list simple this year: drink more water, exercise for at least 30 minutes every day, and keep the skincare standards realistic – you don’t need to be ‘slugging’ your way through 7 pillowcases a week, and you definitely don’t need 2946 serums crowding your Lazy Susan.
Instead, I want to be more realistic about my skincare, scale it back and keep it simple. Sound like something you’d be into? Let’s look at setting realistic skincare standards for 2024:
Keep up the cleansing
As a career girlie, I don’t have time for double cleansing every day, or for dual-wielding gua sha until my double chin disappears. One step I will insist on, though, is cleansing twice every day (in the morning and at night). I use a gentle cleanser suited to my skin type. It’s a product that I’ve been using for years, and that I know works – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. A new cleanser every odd month is not where the money needs to be going, girl.
You still need to moisturise
If dry skin is your reality too, moisturising once daily after a bath or shower is still a must. I tap into raisin territory when my skin doesn’t get enough moisture, and that’s uncomfortable. Find a delicious moisturiser you love (one for your face, once for your bod) and make it an everyday habit. You’ll slide through life like a dolphin, no ashiness in sight.
Always keep protected against the sun
I don’t need to harp on about this one – we all know the importance of using SPF daily, even when there isn’t any sun out. Block out those UV rays by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day. Just do it.
Scrub once a week
I love a gentle face exfoliation, but a full-on body scrub done with a decent exfoliator or sugar scrub and exfoliating gloves, could be one of the most rewarding skincare habits to keep up. Being silky smooth is worth the effort. This doesn’t have to be an every-night thing – once a week is enough.
I can’t ditch the eye cream
Lamelle’s Eye Regeneration plus cream is the only thing that stands between me and my eye bags. Using a good eye cream is not a standard I’m about to drop in 2024. If you struggle with fine lines and puffy eyes, it’s still worth keeping a step in your skincare routine focused on your eyes.
Be healthy for healthy skin
A bad diet and poor lifestyle choices always come back to bite you with a breakout. If I want radiant skin without committing to a 27-step skincare routine, it needs to start with my body. This year, I’ve chosen to cut out processed sugars, carbs and oils. Plus, I’ve committed to exercising for at least 30 minutes every day – these healthy habits are what help the skin glow from the inside out.
Skincare standards taking a backseat?
Look, you don’t have to cut out the face masks, bath bombs and mists. It’s alright to spoil your skin now and then. If you feel like you need a boost of hydration then by all means, do a mask. Use a bath bomb if you’re wanting a luxe bath. Dual-wield the gua sha if you need to. You don’t have to kick these habits – they are beneficial.
The point is, this year, to scale back and simplify in ways that feel most comfortable to you.
