We are finally getting an intimate glimpse into singer, songwriter, actress, producer, entrepreneur and activist – Selena Gomez’ life as she is finally ready to share an exclusive ‘tell all’ documentary covering 6 years of her personal life titled: My mind and Me.
This is Selena’s first documentary and we can only imagine what actually happens behind the scenes being in the limelight – especially for someone whose life has been as highly publicised as hers.
We often only see one side of celebrities’ lives and it’s often the glamorous (or the scandalous) but the real behind the scenes are almost never seen.
Although we as the public aren’t entitled to see everything, we know that most icons battle with their own “everyday issues”. When we know about these (and respect them) a level of humanisation becomes easier to connect with.
Ever since Selena Gomez rose to fame on the Disney Channel, fans have wanted the beloved star to film a documentary about her life and career.
Selena has been an advocate for mental health, and has spoken openly and honestly about her personal challenges after being diagnosed with bipolar. After years in the public eye, she achieved stardom status. As she reached her peak, she took an unexpected turn that pulled her into darkness and this uniquely raw and intimate documentary showcases her six-year journey in a new light.
This project that Selena has been working on has been kept on the down low but here’s what we know so far:
The announcement broke when Selenators (Selena Gomez fans) stumbled upon the news as a rumour. It became a trending topic on Twitter headlining “SELENA DOCUMENTARY IS COMING” and Selena then officially confirmed the news with an Instagram post on September 8, 2022.
Apple then released a statement with more information as the documentary will be coming to AppleTV.
It revealed that the documentary will be directed and produced by Alek Keshishian, who also directed the iconic Madonna – Truth or Dear.
The film will show fans an intimate side of Selena’s personal life amid her global success as an actress, producer, entrepreneur, and recording artist. Apple teased that the project will explore Selena’s life and work since the Revival Tour in 2016 that was abruptly cancelled due to side effects of Lupus.
The tell-all is set to take us on her journey – from Selena’s life-saving kidney transplant in 2017 to her work on her critically-acclaimed third studio album Rare and possibly her upcoming fourth album, the creation of her beauty brand (also named Rare) as well as her challenges with anxiety.
At this time, there is no confirmation from Selena, her team, and Apple about the documentary’s official release date. But of course, we’ll be keeping an eye out for it. Popbuzz.com shares that it could be released towards the end of 2022 but only time will tell.
