We Are EGG, the new-age department store that has Cape Town’s heart, expanded its shopping treasures to the City of Gold in October. Does Rosebank compare to its Cavendish counterpart? Is it the same EGG experience? These are all questions that many EGG diehards have undoubtedly wondered.
Juggling the two cities, I visited both stores to fully assess the assignment: the brands, the options, overall flow and of course, the vibes.
While the Cavendish corner is still bigger and has slightly wider ranges from the housed brands (and more diversity in brand offering) the Rosebank newbie had a slightly better level of organisation being smaller—bolder labels were a huge winner!
In both instances, the entrances are confusing for a first-timer. However, Rosebank visitors will be delighted to know that the recently opened Mama Samba restaurant also acts as a gateway to EGG from the Zone’s shop and restaurant scattered road.
And yes, both are a shopping pleasure, but you need to know what you’re looking for. If you’re purely pursuing, it can feel overwhelming to anyone on their first EGG excursion.
There are myriad brands and some of which you may never have heard of. What makes EGG so unique is its ability to serve as a gallery of sorts—where the weird, wonderful and ever-useful can all take up space. Most of the products you’ll find are vibrant, bespoke or wonderfully quirky. So, if that’s not your beat, I’d say this is a good time to try a new rhythm.

Clean beauty brand Bodyography is another reason I love popping into EGG. One of many international brands you’ll spot upon a visit, Bodyography has a way with glitter (and quality) that secures their place as a personal favourite.
My current obsession is the epic lash lengthening & curling mascara, but they have myraid other treasures for you to fall in love with.

Swiitch Beauty

Rabia Ghoor’s brand has come a long way from her humble days in the beauty industry, and the amount of space Swiitch has at both EGG stores is a testament to this. The pale pink packaging is scattered across both stores, and each has its own Swiitch Beauty haven that’s impossible to miss.
While Swiitch products can be a little tricky to identify (the minimalist packaging is cute until you have to open a lot of boxes to find your shade), you tend to get over that once you find a product you love. Proudly local, women-centric products that stand the test of quality and inclusivity—a must seek on your next EGG adventure.
