The new year has come with a celebratory energy. But it’s not just a new zest for life, it’s the growing movement of celebrating one’s self. Of course this has had a big impact on the beauty industry and we can see it in the makeup trends forecasted to be everywhere in 2022. Let’s dive in to the top 5 to keep your eye on.
Makeup Trend #1: Fresh Foundation
Full coverage is becoming less coveted in foundation, and we see this really taking off this year. Unique is beautiful and makeup users around the globe are opting for lighter, more breathable foundation formulas that let their true skin shine through. Think Meghan Markle wanting her freckles on show through her bridal makeup, Winnie Harlow embracing her vitiligo and of course Alicia Keys who has openly discussed wearing less makeup. We love the natural glow look Alicia adopts in this shoot for Bustle:

As people celebrate their natural skin (and the success of their skincare routines!), the structured look formed with contouring will fall away to make space for an overall more effortless approach.
Makeup Trend #2: Pumped Up Brows
In 2021 we saw everyone trying out microblading, but this year it is going to be all about eyebrow lamination. This semi-permanent procedure focuses on creating shiny, smooth brows that are lifted upward in uniform. The result? Strong brows that look healthy and well-groomed but not overdone. You want to see individual hairs and follow the natural shape of your brows. We are currently obsessing over Emily in Paris lead Lily Collins’s gorgeously thick but tamed brows:

Achieving the look at home is easy: keep eyebrows thick, brush them up with a brow gel and fill in any sparse areas with your favourite eyebrow product.
Makeup Trend #3: Multi-functional Makeup
You’ll see a lot more multi-functional makeup hitting shelves in 2022. But we’re not talking about the average bronzer you can use as eyeshadow. The multi-functional makeup trends of the future are bigger than ever before, and it is all thanks to the newly invigorated obsession with skincare. Consumers are looking for products that can do both.

The CLE Cosmetics Melting Lip Powder is the perfect example of these makeup trends. This one-of-a-kind powder to tint formula can be used on eyes, lips and cheeks with varying intensity. But CLE Cosmetics have gone above and beyond with star ingredients that nourish and protect the skin while providing long-lasting colour. Included in the CLE Cosmetics Melting Lip Powder is: Nattō Gum, packed with naturally occurring enzymes, Vit E, K2 and Lecithin to soften and condition; Blueberry Extract full of antioxidants to brighten and calm; brightening, naturally hydrating Coconut Oil; Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid to moisturise and hydrate.
Makeup Trend #4: Bright Lips
Lips in generally are going to get more attention this year as mask requirements ease and we hopefully enter a post-pandemic era. The colours we see taking the spotlight are those that spark joy and feel celebratory. Think bright pinks, hot corals and maybe even a little pop of purple! Kylie Jenner’s cosmetic brand, Kylie Cosmetics, has always been ahead of the curve with regards to lip products. We love these bright, bold hues!

Makeup Trend #5: Blushing Cheeks
Blush is back – and she’s taking over! Seen all over the catwalk of recent fashion weeks we have a strong feeling that rosy cheeks are going to be one of the strongest makeup trends of this year. Since living through a pandemic we’re becoming more drawn to an aesthetic that is bright and happy, makes us look healthy and feel fresh. Although this is a softer look that goes hand-in-hand with the ‘less is more’ foundation trend, being subtle is not the aim.
The blush of 2022 takes inspiration from the 80s and wants to be seen. Think pop icon Debbie Harry. Try dab on just a little more than you think is necessary.
