When invited to Dr Nerina Wilkinson + Associates for a skin treatment, I jumped at the opportunity. I was first introduced to the renowned clinic on social media when following Rachel Kolisi‘s aesthetic and skincare journey. After having the 3D Bespoke Treatment done, I could not recommend the clinic more — here’s why.
About Dr Nerina Wilkinson + Associates
Dr Nerina Wilkinson, founder and director of Dr Nerina Wilkinson + Associates, is a leading plastic surgeon with over 20 years experience. Along with her team of world-class skincare specialists and go-to medical aesthetic doctors, she strives to provide each client with the highest standard of care.
The beautifully set up clinic at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town offers skin science solutions, cosmetic surgery, women’s wellness and aesthetic couture treatments.
Upon my arrival, I was warmly welcomed by the staff on duty and introduced to my therapist, Kim, who took me through to a treatment room where the first part of my experience would take place.
Facial analysis
First up was the facial analysis. The computerised VISIA Skin Analysis is an international classification system that objectively measures and maps your skin by taking in-depth pictures and providing detailed results, including details of concerns not visible to the naked eye.

Using the insight provided by the analysis, including information around pigmentation, brown spots, wrinkles and pores, Kim was able to talk to me through my skin concerns and, in turn, advise on the best treatment to address those concerns.
While the results showed that my skin was in good condition, she suggested the 3D Bespoke Treatment to improve skin texture (specifically the appearance of pores on my T-zone) and stimulate overall collagen production.
3D Bespoke Treatment
Each 3D Bespoke Treatment is made up of a chemical peel, medical skin needling and LED light therapy – each tailored to each client’s specific needs.
Chemical peels remove the upper, most damaged layers of one’s skin to promote the growth of a new softer, younger-looking layer of skin. The results include improved skin texture and appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores and hyperpigmentation. Because it was my first peel, a gentle lactic acid peel was used on my face. While I experienced some tingling, it was totally bearable and lasted only a few minutes.
Medical skin needling encourages the body to produce new collagen and elastin to repair itself, leaving skin plumper and more youthful-looking. Superficial needling was done on my skin, so no numbing cream was needed at all but it would normally be applied if deeper needling is needed.
LED Light therapy stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, boosts circulation and accelerates tissue repair. The light was placed over my face, headphones were placed over my ears and I was left to relax to carefully selected binaural beats for 30 minutes.
Throughout the treatment, I felt comfortable and relaxed. My therapist was extremely professional and explained each part of the treatment in detail, which has left me more knowledgeable about my skin and what it requires to be at its best.
Before leaving, I was given aftercare products to aid in my skin’s recovery.
Thoughts and results
Post-treatment, my skin was a little red but glowing like never before. For the next three days, my face appeared as if it was a little sunburnt and drier than usual. It’s been one week since the treatment and my skin has started to flake a bit, which is a normal response to a superficial chemical peel. Kim advised that the full results would be visible within one month of the treatment.
A few days after my treatment, I was sent a tailored plan should I wish to continue on my skincare journey, plus a list of recommended products available to buy at the clinic or online.
I look forward to my next treatment but until then, I will await smoother, more radiant-looking skin in the coming weeks.
