Emma Watson has worn many hats since her career began in 1999 at the tender age of 11.
We’ve seen her as a wizard, an elegant style icon, a Disney Princess, an activist for the United Nation’s Women Goodwill, and a feminist, to name a few.
With a mind like Emma’s, helming a ship in a directive role isn’t a far-fetched dream. Now, she’s made her first debut as a director, guiding a short film starring one of the most famous women in the world – herself.
Prada’s latest fragrance, Paradoxe, was the perfect choice for Emma’s seat in the director’s chair. The energy of the scent is set to capture the ‘multi-dimensionality of a woman impossible to frame’ – a message that might just be one of the most authentic tied to a scent.
For this campaign, Prada shakes its head at telling women a few splashes of perfume will make them sexy, or that a bottle of scents can direct the discourse of their lives. On the contrary, Paradoxe tells a simple truth – we’re all multi-dimensional, and ever-changing, yet we still harness that magic that makes us who we are.
Emma’s glamourous skit is beautifully shot, and one of the few commercial shorts that you’d actually want to be longer.
More than a pretty show and smell, the triangle perfume is also sustainable (in a refillable way, though for a price) but it’s something of a nod to Emma’s environmentalist stances. The design of the bottle is an ode to Prada’s original logo.
Of the campaign, Emma shared: “When Prada asked me to be the face of their new fragrance campaign, I asked if I could direct it. Months later, and I’m able to share the results of the faith they shared in me, with all of you. I can’t wait to share this piece of my art, and hope that you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. I could never have done this without my unbelievable team of collaborators. Thank you for your time, commitment, talent and passion.”
