Disney has released their annual Christmas short, a third in the trilogy of the From My Family To Yours festive adverts. The Gift’ is a charming three-minute long animation exploring new change within a family, sibling love, and the power of togetherness, which has already melted thousands of hearts globally since its release earlier this week.
The adverts, which stream and air worldwide, have been going since 2020, when Disney released their first Christmas short called ‘Lola’ following the story of Nicole and her sweet grandmother, Lola. The strength and love of familial bonds, and the passing down of festive traditions is brought to life in this sweet short.
Then, in 2021, Disney released a sequel to Lola titled ‘The Stepdad.’ Here we see a grown-up Nicole with two children, Max and Ella in tow. We join the family for the holidays as they welcome new stepdad Mike to the brood. The family is brought closer together throughout the festive season through the magic found in storybooks.
This year, we catch up with Disney’s festive family in the final installment of the trilogy.
‘The Gift’ tells the story of a new change in the family, as Max and Ella expect to welcome a new sibling and navigate a different dynamic in the home. What brings them all together in the end? A Mickey Mouse toy, passed down from one sibling to the next, as a symbol of love and comfort.
South African vocalist Ray Malo packs a powerful voice behind the soundtrack, A Little More, written for the advert by LA-based songwriters PARKWILD, Sofia Quinn and Rose Tan.
In a release by Disney, Ray Malo says:
“I know first-hand what it’s like being part of a blended family – I know how change, in family dynamics feels, so this story really resonates with me. Disney has been a part of most of our lives, for me for all of my childhood, so it’s really a privilege and honour to be able to be part of this campaign and part of the Disney family.”
Somehow, Disney always manages to tug on our heartstrings and get us excited for the festive season, which Mariah Carey has now officially confirmed, is here!
