Don’t get me wrong. Few things in life are greater than sinking into a comfortable couch. In fact, my pursuit for this kind of maximum comfort has driven me to new realms when it comes to lounging furniture. No longer am I trawling for the perfect, fluffy L-shaped corner couch. I’ve discovered the crème de la crème, and it may not be what you expect. The pouf!
Is the L-shape outdated?
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect L-shape suite for years now. It’s functional, fits any room and boasts enough space to balance the whole brood. Well, what are the cons, then?
My biggest issue with having an entire lounge suite, is the effort I need to put into shifting the couches around when it’s time for me to clean. Suddenly it’s like playing Tetris making sure every square inch meets the mop. Tasks like this are made even more challenging when you’re working with minimal space.
My second qualm with the L-shape is its angular affair. It’s built for a group of people to sit down on, but offers few comfortable seating options when it comes to angles. Either you’re in the one corner facing the television, or you’re off to the side corner, facing who knows what.
With a pouf, all your problems are gone. A singular pouf can be moved and placed anywhere in the room, and offers a cozy pocket of personal space for your to enjoy.
The pouf is in the pudding
After purchasing my first pouf, I have never looked back. Choosing my seat has been liberating – I can sit wherever I please. I just need to grab my pouf and plonk it down wherever I want. That’s the functional beauty of it. Never before had I been able to pick up my couch and convert it into a reading nook by the window, but now all things are possible.
After doing away with couches, you also tend to grow a better appreciation for minimalism. Large items of furniture fill a room up and make it feel quite busy. With smaller, modular pieces of furniture, you open up more room in your space, making the area more breathable and relaxed.
My last pro for the pouf? It makes a better statement than a couch can! Incorporating a funky, colourful pouf in your living room may be the only thing you need to jazz your space up. Often, a couch needs a throw and some gorgeous scatters to really make it pop. A pouf does all the talking on its own.
Purchasing a pouf
There are some well-known and lesser-known brands selling a wide range of poufs out there. It’s all about finding the one that works with your own personal style. To set you off with some inspiration, I’ve rounded up a few of my favourites on the market currently:
Jumbo BoriBori Bean Bag #87 One of a Kind, from Ashanti
Round bean bag from The Giant Beanbag
Beanbag Large Flokati beige from Vetsak
