Closely following the Australian My Kitchen Rules formula, SA’s very own MKR promises all the drama and competition of the original, with a proudly South African flair.
Here are a few reasons you should tune into My Kitchen Rules SA every week…
1. Healthy competition
We love a bit of rivalry on TV and, as these amateur cooks fight to be at the top of the MKR leader board, the stakes get higher and higher. Our favourites are ‘Bloem Besties’ Liz and Leanne who always have something ‘constructively’ critical to say.
The show’s still in its early stages, and things are already heating up – what will the finale be like?
2. Partner love
Surprisingly, all the partners seem to be getting along very well, despite the competition tension. There’s even been some love in the kitchen…

While this is very sweet – and inspiring! – we’re secretly hoping for a few tantrums where the spatulas go flying. We can’t help it!

3. Proudly local
We love the proudly South African vibe on MKR – from the familiar venues in Krugersdorp and Midrand to the delicious guinea fowl dish we saw in one of the first episodes.
The upcoming episode with mother-daughter duo Lani and Louzel takes us to the beautiful Karoo, so we’re hoping for a farm-style feast.
4. Delicious food
The thing that got us interested from the get-go; besides, the show’s tag-line is “come for the food, stay for the drama” and we’re happy to oblige. So many of the dishes so far have looked amazing, from Liz and Leanne’s stuffed gemsbok to Bruce and Claudia’s beautiful Mille Feuille.
If you were looking for dinner ideas for the week, this is a good place to start.

5. Sexy hosts
Should we move this up to number one? Thanks M-Net for offering a bit of eye-candy every Sunday night in the form of musician J’Something and chef David Higgs. And, it seems a few people on twitter happen to agree…
