The annual Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty is perhaps the most prestigious event of the year – barring the Met Gala and the Oscars themselves. It’s also one of those events that allows a-list celebs to dabble in some daring fashion choices.
This year, though, instead of crazy dresses and plenty of skin, we were treated with some pretty show-stopping dresses that seemed to keep the classy, elegant vibes of the 2024 Oscars. Black and silver seemed to be the theme of the night and every star looked their best!
Alas, only some can make it onto this list, so let’s take a look!

Lupita Nyong’o
Like her Oscar’s red carpet look, Lupita Nyong’o wore another stunning ensemble from Armani Privé Couture. The halter neck gown looks sleek and simple at first, but the black sequence is perfectly broken up by the green and purple aspects near the top of the gown.
Her intriguing updo adds that outlandish flair we’ve come to love and know from the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty.
Olivia Munn
Olivia Munn stunned on the Oscar’s red carpet in a stunning Fendi golden gown (I’m still obsessed with it), and she did not disappoint during the after-party. She wore a mesmerising white gown from Fendi couture.
While simple, the sleek look works well with her natural elegance.
Vanessa Hudgens
Vanessa Hudgens shed her body-hugging gown from the Oscars red carpet and donned a custom Alberta Ferretti gown. The sheer black fabric showed off her baby bump perfectly and, honestly, added an ethereal flair to her entire vibe.
Hunter Schafer
I don’t know about you, but I believe that Hunter Schafer is becoming the fashion icon she was always destined to be. The Euphoria star looked stunning in a black Bottega Veneta gown with a high slight that showed just enough leg to make this look a little more risqué.
Her sleek updo and the added gloves add a touch of Hollywood elegance though.
Sydney Sweeney
While we’re on the topic of classic Hollywood vibes, and Euphoria stars, we have to mention Sydney Sweeney.
She graced the red carpet in a golden white archival Marc Bouwer gown. And if you don’t know what “archival” means in couture, it refers to any piece of clothing taken from a designer’s past body of work. If you’ve got a keen eye, you’ll know that this dress is more than just a piece from Bouwer’s old collection. It’s also the dress that Angelina Jolie wore to the Academy Awards 20 years ago!
Like Jolie, Sweeney wears this gown with absolute confidence, and her short, soft bob adds a nice classic touch to the entire ensemble.
Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan slays all day every day and when wearing Balenciaga, she outshines everyone. This silver sleeveless fringe gown is dazzling and so very classic Hollywood – I can’t help but love it.
She, of course, perfectly paired the gown with a pair of Christian Louboutin high heels and vintage jewellery from Joseph Saidian & Sons.
Gabrielle Union
Another classic look from another classic beauty! Gabrielle Union stunned the Vanity Fair red carpet in a glittering gold sequenced gowned from Zuhair Murad couture. The silver gown showed off just enough skin to catch the eye but artfully covered some of the more… intimate areas. Her fabulous slick backup adds a nice soft, elegant touch to a rather loud and sparking look.
Nina Dobrev
If Nina Dobrev has 100 fans, I’m one of them. If she has one fan, I’m that fan. And if she has no fans, then I’m dead. Yes, I’m obsessed with (almost) everything Nina wears, including this spectacular silver Rabanne gown with artful cutouts that show off some skin and figure.
The chainmail vibes seem to be a theme for designers and stylists this year, with America Ferrera and Margot Robbie sporting dresses in a very similar fabric. But Dobrev’s silver gown takes that armour look a little further with a chunky neckline and thick, chunky jewellery.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph
This list would not be complete without mentioning the ever-tasteful Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Whoever dresses her knows exactly what they’re doing. This is perfectly showcased by the mesmerising black column gown Randolph wore to the Vanity Fair after-party.
The Oscar winner looked classy and elegant in the dazzling sleeveless dress, which had some sheer aspects and showed off her curves beautifully. But, she added a modern twist with her daring black lipstick and wispy updo.
Salma Hayek
Salma Hayek always exudes class and a level of sophistication that few others can match. As she waltzed onto the Vanity Fair red carpet, her one-shouldered, figure-hugging silver Gucci gown stole the show.
By no means is this gown outlandish or risqué. But it still catches the eye like most Vanity Fair afterparty ensembles do, maybe thanks to Hayek’s grace and elegance. The classic look was topped off with a modern messy hairstyle and tasteful drop earrings and jewellery.
