The opening ceremony for the Olympic Games in Paris are underway along the River Seine – the capital’s main waterway and venue for the 2024 Paris Games.
Olympic gymnast and official Flag Bearer for Team SA, Caitlin Rooskrantz, was spotted, along with her fellow South African athletes, flying the South African flag high on the River Seine, as they graced the Parade of Nations at the opening of the Paris Games on Friday.
The official TeamSA took to Instagram before the ceremony kick-off, with a team portrait celebrating the incredible group of South African athletes representing the nation at the Paris Games.
“Team SA is all suited up and filled with excitement as they prepare for the extraordinary Opening Ceremony,” wrote TeamSA.

Ahead of the Parade Of Nations, SA Women’s Hockey Player Kayla Swarts took to her Instagram stories, posing with fellow SA athletes including Official Flag Bearer Akani Simbine and her track athlete brother, Wayde Van Niekerk. All clad in Team SA’s official Olympic uniform. Swarts wrote: “open ceremony ready.”

Rooskrantz and Simbine later sported all smiles as official Flag Bearers on the team boat, as they floated along the Seine – a unique choice for the opening of the Olympic ceremony, which is historically held at a stadium.

Team SA was joined by Team Afghanistan, Team Albania, Team Algeria and Team Germany on the boat, proudly greeting the cheers of supporters who rallied along the main waterway of France’s capital city to catch a glimpse of the Parade Of Nations.
