South African fans eager to see Beyoncé perform live will have to wait a little longer, as Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie has confirmed that the global superstar is not heading to the country in April 2025.

Rumours about Beyoncé’s supposed concert at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium on 10 April began circulating in December, leading excited fans to rush online, with some even claiming to have secured tickets. However, McKenzie has put the speculation to rest, warning that the event is a scam.
“Some of you are buying tickets. It’s a scam. Beyoncé is coming, but not now. Don’t buy tickets for Beyoncé,” the minister said during the launch of the Dome at FNB Stadium on Monday evening.
Fake concert scams on the rise
Concert scams are not a new phenomenon, and South African fans have fallen victim to fraudulent ticket sales in the past. Last year, a similar scam involving an alleged Adele concert left many disappointed after they purchased tickets for a show that never existed.
Despite the current disappointment, McKenzie assured fans that an official announcement would be made when Beyoncé does eventually bring her tour to South Africa.
“As the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, I’m telling you that Beyoncé is not coming to South Africa this year,” he said.
A mystery global star is coming
While the BeyHive might be heartbroken, McKenzie teased some exciting news—an international music sensation is set to perform in South Africa soon.
“There’s one big one that’s coming, and tickets are going to sell out in two days. We are announcing it next week,” he revealed.
Although the identity of the artist remains unknown, McKenzie hinted that more global stars are showing interest in performing in South Africa, adding, “Others from around the world are standing in line. They want to come to South Africa. Things are moving again.”
For now, Beyoncé fans will have to wait for an official tour announcement—but in the meantime, South Africa’s music scene looks set for some major international acts in the near future.
